About Us
Our goal is to help people tell better stories with ease
Thanks for visiting our prototype! The Graffito Data Project is a new concept about looking at what a credit card statement can be beyond just a bill. We think credit card statements conveniently provide two ingredients to start telling a good story - time and place. So we've started building a platform to let people collect, organize and share those compelling stories that may have otherwise been forgotten.
What is graffito? Literally speaking, it's the singular form of graffiti, which is originally an Italian word meaning a mark or scratch.
The genesis of our name traces back to a Ted talk where Jimmy Wales discussed how Wikipedia combats vandalism to its web pages. Because anyone can edit a Wiki page, this vandalism seemed like a new form of virtual graffiti where web pages replace public walls and site traffic replaces pedestrians. That sparked thoughts of creating productive forms of digital graffiti. In that vein, we imagined each swipe of a credit card becoming a small graffito and the resulting statement becoming a fresh canvas for storytelling.
